Growing up outside of Washington, D.C., Ryan “Opium” Green created a dance group in high school by the name of “Team $AVAGE” that gained a cult following on YouTube. In 2017, Green moved to New York City and spent seven months homeless as he danced on subway trains and stations.

 

His breakthrough came while getting a standing ovation on “So You Think You Can Dance,” after which Opium won Amateur Night at The Apollo Theater with his movement that defies physics.
